CRS4, in collaboration with the Oxford University and important industries like Fujitsu, Hofmann-Laroche, GSK, Novartis, takes part to the preDiCT project (EU FP7 ICT).
Novel methods are dveloped for the simulation of the electrical activity of the heart in order to study in-silico side effects of drugs during the clinical and pre-clinical trial phase.
The underlying mathematical model (bidomain equations) is treated on a realistic scale allowing short simulation times and high accuracy: for the first time, parallel spectral elements are used to simulate the propagation of the electrical signal on realistic models of the human heart.
Numerical analyses are performed both on "traditional" multi-core clusters and emerging GPU-based computers explicitly designed for intensive number crunching.
