In 2006, the CRS4, together with the University of Cagliari, started an intense research activity focused on the development of new cost-effective processes for the industrial scale exploitation of microalgae photosynthesis with the production of biofuels and simultaneous CO2 capture.
More recently, the attention of the Center has focused on extraction from algae bio-products with high added value, such as biopolymers and antioxidants.
The image shows a simplified scheme of an ideal integrated process that involves the use of microalgae technology for the purification of wastewater and the production of biofuels.
