The final event of the project Ipoacusia - Innovate, Inform, Participate - New Methodologies for Communication of Deaf People was held today in Cagliari.
The project, strongly supported by the Sardinian Regional Authorities, aims to reduce communication barriers between deaf people and the Public Administration.
The approach chosen by CRS4 to address this challenge is based on the use of deep learning models characterized by complex artificial neural network architectures. In particular, a dataset of LIS videos was built, elaborated with the support of sign language experts and a team representative of the deaf community, in order to adequately train neural network, capable of recognizing signs produced in front of a webcam, translating them into textual or vocal form, thus facilitating interlocution between hearing and deaf people.
