Under a hosting agreement between the European Patent Office and CRS4 (Unit VALE), Sascha Moehrs, European Patent Examiner, will give a seminar on September 27th entitled "The European Patent System: general aspects and specific issues related to computer-implemented inventions".
The seminar will provide an overview of Intellectual Property Rights along with a motivation why they do matter for researchers. The European Patent Office (EPO) will be introduced, followed by a comparison of National-, European-, and International (Patent Cooperation Treaty-PCT) patent systems together with an outlook to the Unitary Patent.
In addition, the role of the patent examiner at EPO will be described in conjunction with the patent grant procedure and the concepts of patentability, such as novelty and inventive step.
Finally, the main exceptions and exclusions to the patentability requirements of computer-implemented inventions will be addressed through specific examples.
All the interested people are invited to participate.
The event is organized in collaboration with the Sportello della Proprietà Intellettuale of Sardegna Ricerche and will be held on Wednesday 27 September 2017 from 15:00 to 17:00 at the Manifattura Tabacchi (viale Regina Margherita, Cagliari).
