CRS4 is taking part in the eighth edition of the international conference HELMeTO – Higher Education Learning Methodologies and Technologies Online, taking place in Cagliari from 28 to 30 September 2026 and focusing on digital methodologies and technologies for higher education.
As part of the session “Rethink Education: The Opportunities and Challenges of Artificial Intelligence”, CRS4 researchers presented the contribution “From Live Encounters to Deep Inquiry: Deployment Insights from an AI-Augmented Remote Science Platform and Design Directions for Higher Education”, focusing on the latest developments of the RIALE platform and the prospects for its application in higher education.
The work specifically addresses the underuse of asynchronous learning materials and proposes an approach that combines expert-validated knowledge maps with an AI-based assistant designed to support teachers in developing learning pathways. The aim is to use AI as a tool to support instructional design while keeping teachers in control of educational choices and learning objectives.
The experimentation will continue throughout 2026-2027, involving teachers from the RIALE community and, in parallel, exploring the use of the platform in higher education, where the availability of scientific content directly connected to research activities opens up new opportunities for inquiry-based and in-depth learning pathways.

HELMeTO brings together researchers, educators and professionals working on digital learning methodologies and technologies for higher education, fostering multidisciplinary discussion on topics including artificial intelligence, online and hybrid learning, instructional design, learning analytics and the digital transformation of universities.
