The RIALE Platform introduces new features designed to support more engaging and participatory digital teaching. These enhancements stem from the need to improve the quality and effectiveness of the RIALE-EU project (Remote Intelligent Access to Lab Experiments in Europe) from a methodological perspective.
Over the years, it has become increasingly important to understand how students and teachers interact with project activities, how engaging and motivating these activities are, and what impact they have on learning and interest in STEM disciplines.
To meet this goal, we have introduced new tools for teachers:
dedicated space for teachers’ class groups (courses), with simplified student registration, allowing easy management of multiple groups, even from different subjects or sections;
students can now also register on the platform and follow recorded experiments on mobile devices. We want to actively involve classes in the experimentation phase, inviting students to respond to questions about motivation and teaching practices, helping them become aware of their learning process by tracking their progress over time;
a new booking system for synchronous sessions — live connections with the labs — based on course creation, enabling each booking and activity to be associated with specific students and ensuring clear traceability of experiences;
new teaching materials generated in collaboration with the AI model Claude, to help teachers better prepare their classes for RIALE-EU activities and receive suggestions for complementary activities or for reinforcing concepts that were not fully understood.
A New Step in the RIALE-EU Experimentation
To further improve the functionalities of the RIALE Platform, we have expanded the monitoring of experimental activities to collect meaningful data before and after the educational experiences.
This will allow us to assess the actual effectiveness of the RIALE methodology, based on the hypothesis that combining its strategies can enhance the understanding of scientific processes.
Specifically, we will analyze:
registration of students involved in the experimentation;
interactions between students and researchers;
interactions with the teaching materials available on the platform;
comparison between pre-test results (before starting RIALE-EU activities) and post-test results (after participating in the activities);
evaluation of overall satisfaction with the experience.
These data will help us better understand how the Platform can support truly effective science education centered on active learning. In this way, RIALE-EU becomes not only a platform for accessing remote experiments but also an intelligent learning environment capable of offering teachers data, analyses, and pedagogical support tools.
Thanks to these additions, teachers and students can enjoy a more seamless, motivating learning experience focused on educational goals.
