CRS4 is an interdisciplinary research center that studies, develops, and applies innovative solutions on the topics of HPC, visual computing, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence for energy transition, predictive medicine, aerospace, cultural heritage, precision agriculture, smart lands, and cybersecurity.
It was founded in 1990 by the Autonomous Region of Sardinia and its sole partner is the regional agency Sardegna Ricerche.
It currently has offices in Pula and Cagliari and employs 130 people. It has an annual budget of about 12 million euros, 50% of which is covered by the Autonomous Region of Sardinia and the remainder by regional, national and international resources acquired through competitive procedures or through specific orders.
It holds 8 patents and 3 trademarks, has produced more than 220 pieces of software, 27 of which are registered with the SIAE, and published more than 1,700 scientific papers.
As of July 2020, Giacomo Cao is serving as its sole director.
The Center’s mission is to help Sardinia give birth to and grow a fabric of hi-tech companies essential to its economic and cultural development.
CRS4’s technology development and scientific research focus on enabling computational technologies and their application in the fields of biosciences, information society, energy, and environment. Subject areas characterized by high economic and social impact, responding to the needs of the market, the community and the need to develop high-tech products, processes and services.
The Center’s goal is to study, develop and apply innovative solutions through a multidisciplinary approach, drawing on highly specialized skills and knowledge. On this basis, CRS4 enters into agreements with academia, business and science, also participating in relevant national and international projects.
As of February 2021, CRS4 has equipped itself with a very high-profile technical and scientific Advisory Board that will give assistance, support and advice to management.
