EUMEDGRID intends to exploit the widespread interest amongst research groups in running their applications on the project Grid testbed. Surveys conducted by the project have been used to select an initial set of applications, some of which were drawn from application areas supported by EGEE and EGEE-II. At present, the applications which are being supported by EUMEDGRID include: Projects connected with CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC): ATLAS (a particle physics experiment) and the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS), a large general-purpose particle detector, ArchaeoGrid: a multi-disciplinary application to store and process archaeological data from heterogeneous fields (climatology, geology, paelo-botanic) and Groundwater Hydrology Application: software dedicated to forecasting seawater intrusion in coastal aquifers. CRS4 is involved with the initiative as the developer of the groundwater hydrology application.
