CRS4 contributions to research data sharing at the European Biobank Week 2026 in Prague

locandina European Biobank Week 2026 di Praga

CRS4 will join the European biobanking community in discussing the current state of the art and future perspectives on the reuse and sharing of research data during the leading conference in this field.

The European Biobank Week 2026, the main annual event for the European biobanking community, will take place in Prague from 19 to 22 May 2026 and will bring together leading experts from academia, healthcare and industry, including active participation from the CRS4.

The congress, organised by BBMRI-ERIC and ESBB, focuses on the scientific, technological, ethical, legal and regulatory challenges that research and diagnostic biobanks must address in order to effectively support biomedical research and patient care.

The Visual and Data-intensive Computing (ViDiC) sector of CRS4 has long been engaged in the development of models, methods and tools to improve the creation, management and analysis of research data. In the biomedical domain, these activities are carried out both within international infrastructures such as BBMRI-ERIC and through regional initiatives such as the I FAIR Program, in which CRS4, Università degli Studi di Cagliari, Università degli Studi di Sassari and Sardegna Ricerche collaborate with researchers involved in observational clinical studies in Sardinia.

During the congress, Francesca Frexia and Luca Pireddu will present two contributions also involving Giovanni Delussu, Cecilia Mascia, Vittorio Meloni and Alessandro Sulis from the ViDiC sector:

“BBMRI Consent to Biobanking Governance over time and in the real world through a Standard-Based Digital Approach”, focused on the results of research activities related to dynamic consent for biobanking;
“The I FAIR Program: a collective space for independent clinical research in Sardinia”, focused on the I FAIR Program and on the biomedical research registry for Sardinia developed by CRS4.

The results presented at the European Biobank Week were funded by the projects BBMRI.it Consent (PNRR Strengthening BBMRI.it), Lab FAIR Data (funded under Article 9 of Regional Law 20/2015 within the IFAIR Program, co-financed by the Autonomous Region of Sardinia and implemented in collaboration with Sardegna Ricerche), ToPMa (RP_CRP_077 initiative funded through FSC 2014–2020 resources – Development Pact of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia) and XDATA (funded under Article 9 of Regional Law 20/2015, RAS SR, Institutional Project).

More information about the conference is available on the official European Biobank Week 2026 website.
