On 18 November 2025, CRS4 will take part in the National Day of Italian Biobanks, organized by BBMRI.it in Milan at the University of Milano-Bicocca. The Centre will be represented by Francesca Frexia, Luca Pireddu, and Alessandro Sulis from the Visual and Data-Intensive Computing (ViDiC) sector.
The sharing of biological samples and associated data is a fundamental pillar of modern biomedical research. Biobanks—non-profit organisations dedicated to the preservation and distribution of human biological material and related data—enable advances in the study of specific diseases, support the development of new drugs, and contribute to the advancement of personalised medicine. At the European level, the BBMRI-ERIC research infrastructure plays a key role by connecting researchers, biobank professionals, the healthcare industry, participants, and patients who entrust their samples and data for scientific purposes.
CRS4 collaborates actively with BBMRI-ERIC in international research initiatives, in the strategic design of the European IT infrastructure, and in supporting the BBMRI.it National Node, which brings together Italian research biobanks. During the Milan event, the CRS4 team will join the plenary discussion dedicated to the Centre’s technical contributions, with a focus on interoperability across clinical information systems, dynamic consent models, and scalable data analysis for biomedical research.
The activities presented are developed within the ToPMa project (Intervento RP_CRP_077 funded with FSC 2014–2020 resources – Patto per lo Sviluppo della Regione Sardegna) and XDATA (Funding under Art. 9 L.R. 20/2015, RAS SR, Institutional Project).
