The Healthcare Flows Group has a long-standing research and development experience in biomedical and clinical IT applications. Activities include several applications of technology to medicine: biomedical data modeling, heterogeneous system integration, e-Health and telemedicine. The group is involved in international organizations (like IHE, HL7, OME and openEHR) and is collaborating with health companies and specialized clinical research institutions, such as Karolinska Institutet (Stockholm), IRCCS Burlo Garofolo (Trieste) and Azienda Ospedaliera Brotzu (Cagliari). Research outcomes are promptly transferred to the healthcare industry through direct collaborations with clinical institutions and companies, aimed at finding state-of-the-art solutions to real-world problems.
The activities are mainly focused on four areas:
The activities are mainly focused on four areas:
- traceability in health processes and integration of clinical domains;
- digital pathology;
- semantic and computational modeling of heterogeneous biomedical data;
- real-time telemedicine and distributed medicine.
The group is also involved in the organization of courses and workshops with the purpose of enabling the spreading of a shared knowledge in the field of healthcare informatics between research centers, clinical institutions and companies.
The results achieved show that is possible to combine research, industry and healthcare, implementing technological and methodological experimental prototypes, designed for the market or research contexts in real environments.
