- Climate and meteorological data analysis and modelling applications
- Information Systems and modelling for inland and marine water management
- Modelling and geochemical data analysis for groundwater resources management
The main focus of this activity is the development and implementation of state-of-the-art regional climate and limited area meteorological models on high-end computing infrastructures both local (ie. cluster of PCs or parallel architectures in general) and geographically distributed (i.e. on GRID systems). One of the major problems addressed is also the post-processing and analysis of the huge amount of modelled and measured atmospheric data to be able to give a compact and effective description of the past, present ant future state of the atmosphere. The aims of this activity are strictly tied to the other two activities of Environmental Sciences Program, as one of the major efforts is devoted to the simulation and forecast of extreme events of precipitation and to the climatic assessment of the precipitation component of the hydrological budget.
