{"id":19712,"date":"2025-07-03T18:24:31","date_gmt":"2025-07-03T16:24:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.crs4.it\/projects\/industria-2015-pec\/"},"modified":"2026-04-02T12:37:58","modified_gmt":"2026-04-02T10:37:58","slug":"industria-2015-pec","status":"publish","type":"projects","link":"https:\/\/www.crs4.it\/en\/projects\/industria-2015-pec\/","title":{"rendered":"INDUSTRIA 2015 PEC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Program entitled &#8220;MILD Technology Integration in innovative combustion system characterised by low emissions&#8221; will develop the application of the MILD Combustion Technology in the strategic industrial sectors of steel and electricity in our Country, where energy efficiency is a key aspect. The advantages of applying MILD technology to the steel and energy sectors could be transferred to other important industrial sectors characterised by high energy needs, such as glass, cement and metallurgy sectors. The program foresees MILD technology being implemented in the following four combustion systems:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a reactor for an oxy coal combustion plant with carbon capture sequestration<\/li>\n<li>a gas turbine burner<\/li>\n<li>a steam boiler burner<\/li>\n<li>a steel heating furnace.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The program strategy is to create a synergy between big and small enterprises and research organizations to achieve a commercial exploitation overcoming the technological limits that the development of the prototypes, based on MILD combustion technology, requires. The aim of the program is to demonstrate the applicability of the MILD combustion technique to key industrial processes through the realization of full scale prototypes. The prototypes will be characterised in term of the feasibility, emissions and efficiency obtained using the MILD technique thanks to the uniformity of temperature and thermodynamic variables, distinctive to the MILD technique. In 1995, he works at ENEL-CRT of Pisa on two-phase flow simulation and modeling.  He arrives at CRS4 in 1996 where he works on fluid-structure interaction. Since 1997, he works in the ADS field, making CFD simulations and analysis, participating to the FP5 PDS-XADS, FP6 EUROTRANS, FP7 THINS, CDT, SEARCH and MAXSIMA, and H2020 PASCAL and PATRICIA European projects. Between 2002 and 2014, he also works occasionally on turbulent combustion simulation. From 2015 to 2019 still by means of CFD analysis, he contributes in the H2020 framework to the MYRTE project on high level waste transmutation and to the SESAME project on the criticalities of the liquid metal fluid-dynamics for applications to the clean nuclear power of the future. He works for two year as a mechanical engineer for a private company, designing special valves for refinery plants.  Since 1999 he works at CRS4, where he gains experience in mechanical simulation and in scientific programming on parallel machines. He is involved in several projects: the design of fission fragment space propulsion system for the Italian Space Agency, the design of several equipment of the LHC and other experiments for CERN, the simulation of elastic wave propagation in various fields, the design and simulation of a solar power system, among others.  In 2008 he works at CERN as a scientific associate developing simulation software for beam dump studies.
