Thermal-hydraulics is recognized as a key scientific subject in the development of innovative reactor systems. This project is devoted to important crosscutting thermal-hydraulic issues encountered in various innovative nuclear systems, such as advanced reactor core thermal-hydraulics, single phase mixed convection and turbulence, specific multiphase flow, and code coupling and qualification. The main objectives of the project are: Generation of a data base for the development and validation of new models and codes describing the selected crosscutting thermal-hydraulic phenomena. This data base contains both experimental data and data from directnumerical simulations (DNS). Development of new physical models and modeling approaches for more accurate description of the crosscutting thermal-hydraulic phenomena such as heat transfer and flow mixing, turbulent flow modeling for a wide range of Prandtl numbers, and modeling of flows under strong influence of buoyancy. \u2022 Improvement of the numerical engineering tools and establishment of a numerical platform for the design analysis of the innovative nuclear systems. This platform contains numerical codes of various classes of spatial scales, i.e. system analysis, sub-channel analysis and CFD codes, their coupling and the guidelines for their applications. The project will achieve optimum usage of available European resources in experimental facilities, numerical tools and expertise. It will establish a new common platform of research results and research infrastructure. In 1995, he works at ENEL-CRT of Pisa on two-phase flow simulation and modeling.  He arrives at CRS4 in 1996 where he works on fluid-structure interaction. Since 1997, he works in the ADS field, making CFD simulations and analysis, participating to the FP5 PDS-XADS, FP6 EUROTRANS, FP7 THINS, CDT, SEARCH and MAXSIMA, and H2020 PASCAL and PATRICIA European projects. Between 2002 and 2014, he also works occasionally on turbulent combustion simulation. From 2015 to 2019 still by means of CFD analysis, he contributes in the H2020 framework to the MYRTE project on high level waste transmutation and to the SESAME project on the criticalities of the liquid metal fluid-dynamics for applications to the clean nuclear power of the future. He works for two year as a mechanical engineer for a private company, designing special valves for refinery plants.  Since 1999 he works at CRS4, where he gains experience in mechanical simulation and in scientific programming on parallel machines. He is involved in several projects: the design of fission fragment space propulsion system for the Italian Space Agency, the design of several equipment of the LHC and other experiments for CERN, the simulation of elastic wave propagation in various fields, the design and simulation of a solar power system, among others.  In 2008 he works at CERN as a scientific associate developing simulation software for beam dump studies.
