{"id":16794,"date":"2025-07-03T18:20:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-03T16:20:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.crs4.it\/projects\/sardine\/"},"modified":"2026-04-02T12:34:00","modified_gmt":"2026-04-02T10:34:00","slug":"sardine","status":"publish","type":"projects","link":"https:\/\/www.crs4.it\/en\/projects\/sardine\/","title":{"rendered":"SARDINE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Achieving the EU&#8217;s climate change and energy policy objectives for 2020 will require a major transformation of the EU and national electricity infrastructure.\u00a0<br \/>\nThe need to develop energy planning systems that allow energy infrastructures to be managed in an eco-compatible and sustainable way becomes a fundamental prerogative. \u00a0<br \/>\nSARDINE responds to this need for smart grid design by aiming to create a Web-based decision-support application that, through a tool, allows to increase the effectiveness of the analysis during the design of new smart grids or retrofitting of solutions to be improved.<br \/>\nSARDINE for this purpose integrates different methodologies including: the Geographic Information System (GIS), the Multicriteria Optimization (OM) and the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).<br \/>\nSpecifically, the functionalities of each methodology include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The GIS system will be used to gather, collect and present data and geographical constraints through the WBDSA.<\/li>\n<li>The LCA methodology will allow the processing of social, economic and environmental data and constraints.<\/li>\n<li>Multi-criteria optimization will provide the mathematical basis for assessing and providing the smart grid designer with the best options based on the requirements expressed. He works for two year as a mechanical engineer for a private company, designing special valves for refinery plants.  Since 1999 he works at CRS4, where he gains experience in mechanical simulation and in scientific programming on parallel machines. He is involved in several projects: the design of fission fragment space propulsion system for the Italian Space Agency, the design of several equipment of the LHC and other experiments for CERN, the simulation of elastic wave propagation in various fields, the design and simulation of a solar power system, among others.  In 2008 he works at CERN as a scientific associate developing simulation software for beam dump studies. He works as an expert software engineer in the Distributed Computing Group. Currently he deals with software development for high-performance computing infrastructures, virtualization and distributed storage. In the past, he has worked in the biomedical field, developing interfaces and applications with health informatics standards such as DICOM and HL7. His research interests are related to           meteorological mesoscale ensemble prediction, climatic           modelling and environmental data analysis. Currently, between           the others, he is involved in the EU-H2020 Netfficient project for the           development of a energy production, from renewable sources,           forecasting system. Recently involved in the EU-FP7 CLIMB           project in which CRS4 evaluated and compared the skill of           various regional climate models as boundary conditions for           hydrological modelling scenario studies in the Mediterranean basin area. Within           the projects GRIDA3 and CYBERSAR, funded by the Italian           Research Ministry (MIUR), he was involved in setting up a           multi-model multianalysis limited area ensemble to be run on a           GRID infrastructure and\/or remote computing portals.
