In this context, a study published in <em data-start=\"529\" data-end=\"563\">Energy Conversion and Management<\/em>\u2014one of the leading international scientific journals in the energy field\u2014presents an innovative digital solution for the smart management of electric vehicle fleet charging powered by renewable energy.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"767\" data-end=\"1123\">The article is authored by <strong data-start=\"794\" data-end=\"856\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.crs4.it\/en\/people\/alberto-varone\/\">Alberto Varone<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crs4.it\/en\/people\/guido-porruvecchio\/\">Guido Porruvecchio<\/a> <\/strong>and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.crs4.it\/en\/people\/alessandro-romanino\/\"><strong data-start=\"794\" data-end=\"856\"> Alessandro Romanino<\/strong><\/a>, researchers from the <strong data-start=\"879\" data-end=\"918\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.crs4.it\/en\/research-and-development-sectors\/dt\/\">Digital Technologies<\/a> sector of CRS4<\/strong>, and introduces <strong data-start=\"935\" data-end=\"985\">IREM (Intelligent Renewable Energy Management)<\/strong>, a software platform designed to optimize energy flows within microgrids characterized by renewable energy production and variable loads.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"176\" data-end=\"257\">A digital platform for the design and real-time control of complex microgrids<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"259\" data-end=\"703\">The activities of the <strong data-start=\"281\" data-end=\"331\">IREM \u2013 Intelligent Renewable Energy Management<\/strong> working group focus on the development of a platform capable of operating flexibly both in the <strong data-start=\"427\" data-end=\"443\">design phase<\/strong> and in the <strong data-start=\"455\" data-end=\"476\">real-time control<\/strong> of complex energy microgrids. These microgrids may include <strong data-start=\"536\" data-end=\"586\">electric and gaseous energy generation systems<\/strong>, energy storage systems, and consumption units characterized by <strong data-start=\"651\" data-end=\"702\">different levels of demand priority and urgency<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"705\" data-end=\"1114\">The platform, developed internally at CRS4, is based on a microservice architecture called <strong data-start=\"796\" data-end=\"828\">CMC \u2013 CRS4 Microservice Core<\/strong>, integrated with a dedicated <strong data-start=\"858\" data-end=\"903\">Internet of Things microservice (CMC-IoT)<\/strong>. This architecture enables near real-time monitoring and control of all microgrid components, overcoming the typical limitations of proprietary systems and facilitating the integration of heterogeneous devices.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1116\" data-end=\"1503\">The primary objective of IREM is to <strong data-start=\"1152\" data-end=\"1213\">maximize the self-consumption of renewable energy sources<\/strong> within the microgrid, while minimizing energy exchanges with the external grid. In this context, particular emphasis is placed on the <strong data-start=\"1348\" data-end=\"1416\">optimized use of electric vehicle fleet charging infrastructures<\/strong>, which are treated not merely as loads to be served, but as flexible energy resources.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1505\" data-end=\"1883\">Electric vehicle batteries are therefore managed as <strong data-start=\"1557\" data-end=\"1577\">deferrable loads<\/strong>, whose charging can be modulated or postponed according to the availability of locally generated renewable energy. In selected scenarios, these batteries can also actively contribute to the energy balance of the microgrid through <strong data-start=\"1808\" data-end=\"1833\">Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G)<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1838\" data-end=\"1866\">Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V)<\/strong> operating modes.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2775\" data-end=\"2827\">A tangible contribution to the energy transition<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2829\" data-end=\"3255\">The study highlights how digital technologies, when applied to energy management, can deliver effective solutions that are already suitable for real-world deployment.
