Domenico D\u2019Urso<\/strong>, Associate Professor of Physics at the University of Sassari, is the National Coordinator of the Einstein Telescope Italy scientific community and Co-Chair of the Site Characterization Board of the international Einstein Telescope Collaboration.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, he will present the talk entitled:
\u201cEinstein Telescope, the next generation infrastructure for Gravitational Waves detection: Status of the project and technological challenges.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Abstract of the seminar:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The detection of gravitational waves has opened a new window onto the Universe.
The joint observation of gravitational waves and electromagnetic signals from astrophysical phenomena, first achieved in 2017, marked the beginning of multi-messenger astronomy<\/strong>. While the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA<\/strong> collaborations continue to make new detections, a new generation of gravitational wave observatories is being developed, set to operate in the coming decades and enabling the exploration of almost the entire Universe.<\/p>\n

The Einstein Telescope (ET)<\/strong> is Europe\u2019s next-generation project for gravitational wave detection. With an order-of-magnitude improvement in sensitivity, ET will allow scientists to probe the depths of the cosmos, paving the way for major advances in astrophysics, cosmology, and fundamental physics<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The presentation will provide an overview of the project, the main technological challenges<\/strong>, and the expected impact on the future of gravitational wave astronomy.<\/p>\n
