Ihave worked with streams of genomic and industrial data (using ApacheKafka and Flink as tools) and, within the DeepHealth European project,to the classification of gigapixel medical images, using bothTensorflow and the specialized EDDL ML library. Expertise will be articulated in thematic platforms that will include:\n<ul>\n<li>basic research (biobanks of iPS and organoids as models of pathology; identification of specific molecular targets; fabrication of bio-electronic systems for drug evaluation);\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>pre-clinical research (animal models, identification and validation of disease biomarkers through computational data analysis, pharmacodynamics);<\/li>\n<li>new drug development (manufacturing, safety monitoring, specificity and formulation);<\/li>\n<li>clinical consulting.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nH2UB meets the need to manage and develop research infrastructure of high complexity. The growing urbanization and aggregation of metropolitan territorial communities, sustainable development, citizen engagement, economic and cultural attractiveness and governance are among the most important issues facing modern cities. The increasing complexity of these issues and the technological development are leading to an urgent need and the opportunity to radically rethink how we build and operate our cities.\nThis project aims at studying and developing innovative methods and technologies to offer new intelligent solutions to improve city attractiveness, resource management, and the safety and quality of the life of citizens through the close combination of use and experimentation of advanced communication infrastructure and widespread sensors, and the study and development of innovative vertical solutions.\nIn particular, the project will be focused on the following topics:\n<ul>\n<li>open technologies for ubiquitous communication and distributed sensing; <\/li>\n<li>aggregation, processing, and distribution or big data\/open data; <\/li>\n<li>citizen's safety from environmental hazards; <\/li>\n<li>energy awareness, and development of intelligent networks for energy distribution; <\/li>\n<li>scalable distribution and display of large amounts of data, with particular reference to numerical simulation and data from the cultural heritage sector.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nThe project is also accompanied by a dissemination and training plan, in which three Summer Schools will be organized on the subject of Urban Informatics.\nThe project is part of a broader framework that aims to make Sardinia one of the most important regions in the development and application of innovative technologies for smart cities. The fields of science, engineering, and technology are increasingly defined by data-driven approaches and need scalable solutions to make the most of the vast masses of information available. The study, development, and application of methods and technologies for processing, analyzing, exploring, and sharing massive and\/or complex data are, therefore, at the heart of all strategic research plans, both at the European and National scales and for regional smart specialization.\u00a0\nCRS4 actively contributes to this field of research and has now achieved a leading role in the national landscape. The institutional project XDATA, funded by the contribution under art. 9 L.R. 20\/2015, aims to consolidate and strengthen the center's activities in this strategic area and is divided into two parallel strands of activity:\n<ul>\n<li>The first stream, developed within the ViDiC sectore and leveraging synergies with initiatives at the national and international scale in the field of <strong>visual and data-intensive computing<\/strong>, focuses on scalable, and where possible shared and interoperable, enabling methods and technologies for acquiring, creating, processing, distributing and exploring complex and\/or massive datasets from simulations or measurements of real phenomena, objects, environments or processes. In particular, we will target our interest on: distributed computing, automation and machine learning solutions to improve the scalability of all processes; adaptive and intelligent visual computing methods for both the processing and understanding of geometric and visual data and their presentation; and management and sharing solutions based on data and process modeling using open formalisms, with a specific focus on the traceability and reproducibility of each process step. These general solutions will then be applied in vertical solutions in application areas that will include digital medicine, cultural heritage, and, more generally, digital science, engineering, and society.<\/li>\n<li>\nThe second strand, on the other hand, is developed within the Digital Technologies sectore, and focuses on the <strong>remote sensing<\/strong> supply chain, where the need emerges for a systematic structuring of processes for managing information flows, whether derived from satellite observation, aerial sensing, or ground-based networks, and the establishment of a persistent information base of aggregation of the time series of interest, functional for feeding models in the domains of interest and for multi-scenario representation of geographic output. The development of data fusion methodologies in the different spectral ranges, in line with the activities of ongoing projects, also requires the study of operational-type processing methodologies, especially where real-time requirements may be relevant.
