Manuela has a degree in engineering at the University of Cagliari and has been a researcher at CRS4 (Center for Advanced Studies and Research in Sardinia) since 2001. Her research activity is mainly focused on the development of applications related to the semantic analysis and the automatic classification of web resources, based on Natural Language Processing (NLP) able to understand the interactions between computers and natural languages. The aim is to create an engine capable of identifying the contents of interest to users on the basis of a set of characteristics defined as specific to in-depth contents, excluding the enormous amount of news and flash news currently available on the web on any subject. The tool must integrate the results of the research with documents, archives and open data made available by bodies and institutions (e.g. scientific resources, sentences, parliamentary documents, acts of committees of inquiry, historical archives, declarations and institutional documents, etc.). An important role will have also the semantic analysis of textual content, supported by advanced techniques of analysis of visual information in documents.
