She holds a Chemistry degree (1991) at the  University of Sassari, and a Ph.D degree (1996) in Physical Chemistry at the University of Siena. Prior to joining CRS4, she conducted research in the field of quantum chemistry, by using appropriate theory and mathematical tools to study vibronic structures of small molecules of environmental interest. This activity was conducted at the Departments of Chemistry  of the University of Pisa and  Wuppertal (Germany).  Her research interest at CRS4 included modeling and simulations to solve problems related to groundwater pollution (RaCoS project), solar desalination (Lebanon project), interaction of nuclear fission fragments with hydrogen in nuclear space engine (Rubbia&#8217;s P242 project), multicomponent diffusion within zeolites for water cleaning (Eni), thermodiffusion and concentrating solar power systems, solar tower technologies (EU-STAGE STE).  She has papers in the major international refereed journals, as Int. J. of Heat and Mass Transfer, Solar Energy, J. Chem. Phys., J. Phys. Chem, Mol. Phys., Ind. Eng. Chem. However, significant research efforts are needed to achieve this goal.  This Integrated Research Programme (IRP) engages all major European  research institutes, with relevant and recognized activities on STE and  related technologies, in an integrated research structure to  successfully accomplish the following general objectives: a) Convert the  consortium into a reference institution for concentrating solar energy  research in Europe, creating a new entity with effective governance  structure; b) Enhance the cooperation between EU research institutions  participating in the IRP to create EU added value; c) Synchronize the  different national research programs to avoid duplication and to achieve  better and faster results; d) Accelerate the transfer of knowledge to  industry in order to maintain and strengthen the existing European  industrial leadership in STE; e) Expand joint activities among research  centres by offering researchers and industry a comprehensive portfolio  of research capabilities, bringing added value to innovation and  industry-driven technology; f) Establish the European reference  association for promoting and coordinating international cooperation in  concentrating solar energy research. The first objective is to develop a prototype network (cloud) application on which to carry out experimentation with appropriate text-to-speech and speech-to-text paradigms designed to improve communication between able-bodied people and people with hearing loss. A second goal is to develop a prototype cloud application capable of handling LIS-to-text services. One of the critical issues being addressed stems from the need to take advantage of significant computing resources for real-time management of machine learning models. In this area, the best high-performance computing architectures present at CRS4 will be tested as well as state-of-the-art options present on the cloud services market (e.g., Amazon, Google, IBM, Microsoft) will be evaluated. The operational objective of the project aims at the timely management of the various stages of the operational pipeline leading from the acquisition of the sequence of video images, to their image processing, to their simplification into a computational model useful for the automatic understanding of the gesture itself in a format suitable to be interpreted by appropriate artificial neural networks in text format. \u00a0It is planned to update services developed on the basis of user feedback (LivingLab). Mathematical models that describe groundwater flow and reactive transport will be used to help predict the migration and fate of contaminants and to evaluate the effectiveness of pollutant containment and aquifer\/soil restoration measures. Existing numerical codes for the simulation of groundwater flow and transport will be elaborated and enhanced to include consideration of the specific chemical and physical processes relevant to the two sites, and to more general problems of radionuclide contamination of groundwater. The models will be integrated into an easy-to-use information management framework that will include the site data and other analysis tools such as geographic information systems.
