He holds a Laurea (M.Sc.) degree in Physics (1990) from the University of Pisa, Italy and a Ph.D. degree in  Chemical Physics (1997) from the University of Strasbourg, France.   During his research activity, he has developed physical models and numerical simulation codes  in various fields, including: i) effects of relativity and electronic correlation on the chemistry of atoms and molecules, ii) propagation and scattering of electromagnetic wave, and iii) low temperature and high temperature fuel cells &#8211; fuel cells materials. In particular, the idea behind the project is the integration of a passive system for handling solar panels, which allows better absorption of solar energy during the day, with an integrated system of storage of energy produced that allows a greater modulation of the energy produced compared to demand. However, significant research efforts are needed to achieve this goal.  This Integrated Research Programme (IRP) engages all major European  research institutes, with relevant and recognized activities on STE and  related technologies, in an integrated research structure to  successfully accomplish the following general objectives: a) Convert the  consortium into a reference institution for concentrating solar energy  research in Europe, creating a new entity with effective governance  structure; b) Enhance the cooperation between EU research institutions  participating in the IRP to create EU added value; c) Synchronize the  different national research programs to avoid duplication and to achieve  better and faster results; d) Accelerate the transfer of knowledge to  industry in order to maintain and strengthen the existing European  industrial leadership in STE; e) Expand joint activities among research  centres by offering researchers and industry a comprehensive portfolio  of research capabilities, bringing added value to innovation and  industry-driven technology; f) Establish the European reference  association for promoting and coordinating international cooperation in  concentrating solar energy research. The project CRF-99 faces the problem of describing effectively the great heterogeneity of structural features, materials, chemo-physical properties of a fuel cell\u2019s parts with the aim of\u00a0 predicting and optimizing the performance curve.\u00a0 For this has been developed the finite volume code \u201cModellazione Integrata di Celle a combustibile (MIC) \u201c\u00a0 for the numerical simulation of direct hydrogen (DHFC) and direct methanol (DMFC) fuel cells . In\u00a0 MIC code is implemented the modified Bernardi Verbrugge (MBV) which has proved to be numerically stable and highly accurate for the description of\u00a0 fuel cells\u2019 performance
