Jose Francisco Saenz-Cogollo received his bachelor degree in Electronics Engineering in 2004 and his M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering in 2007 both from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana (Medellin, Colombia). In 2008 he joined the Neuroengineering and Bio-nanotechnologies Group at the University of Genoa where he obtained his Ph.D. degree in Bioengineering in 2011 working in the mechano-electrical characterization of living cells. From 2011 to 2012 he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Laboratory of Biosensors and Bioelectronics of the Swiss Institute of Technology ETH Zurich (Zurich, Switzerland) doing research on neuroelectronic interfaces. From 2012 to 2015 he worked as a postdoc in the Advanced Electronic Devices Laboratory (DEALAB) of the University of Cagliari, initially doing research in the field of conductive fabrics and subsequently developing telemedicine applications based on textile sensors and IoT systems. From 2016 to 2017 he worked with the company Medispa s.r.l. in the development of a cloud-based platform for wellness management and prevention in pharmacies. He started working at CRS4 as an expert researcher in September 2017, initially in the development of solutions for the acquisition and processing of biomedical data. Since 2019 he has started to deal with artificial intelligence, researching machine learning algorithms for the recognition of cardiac arrhythmias in ECG traces and techniques for real-time image processing using deep learning models. Between 2020 and 2023 he worked on several projects related to the use of deep learning models for the segmentation and classification of ultrasound scans and the detection of tumor structures.
