He is responsible for all research and development functions, including scientific leadership, project planning, marketing, fund raising, proposals, budget and recruitment. He has a successful history of obtaining and maintaining sponsorship for research and development, in particular for more than 20 years with the Oil&Gas industry. Publications have been restricted by contract.
He leads an R&D team (Imaging and Numerical Geophysics) providing innovative industrial software for seismic exploration based on efficient parallel algorithms and high-performance implementations of very-large-scale 3D imaging tools; many of these are now used routinely in production. He also widened the scope of the Program with participation in projects partly funded by the Sardinian Regional Authority, the Italian Research Ministry or the European Commission. He has shifted the R&D activity toward the development of WEB services, providing knowledge-based models, a problem solving environment, and collaborative computing tools to decision makers in the fields of energy and environmental management, land planning and development.
