From April 15th to September 25th, 2016, the Archaeological Museum of the University of Zurich will host a large archaeological exhibition dedicated to Sardinia. In this context, the visitors will be offered the opportunity to interactively inspect 38 high-resolution 3D models reconstructed at the resolution of 16 points/mm2. Users will freely explore the statues in full details using a touch interface connected to a large 4K monitor.
The innovative application that drives the virtual exploration, an evolution of those already presented in Cagliari, Cabras, Rome, and Milan, has been developed by the CRS4 Visual Computing group and combines research results in 3D reconstruction, multiresolution modeling and rendering, and user interaction. The technology can be used supports worldwide diffusion of exploration experiences of cultural heritage, without the risks associated to transportation of cultural assets.
