The photo exhibition “82°07’North” has been inaugurated yesterday, November 8, at FestivalScienza 2019, in the exhibition area of the Fondazione di Sardegna (Cagliari, Via San Salvatore da Horta 2).
As part of the scientific dissemination project Lab Boat, the CRS4 presents photos and videos of the exceptional Arctic environments visited by the scientific expedition Polarquest2018.
In the summer of 2018, the Polarquest2018 expedition circumnavigated the Svalbard islands with the eco-sustainable NANUQ sailboat to commemorate the 90th anniversary of Umberto Nobile's polar enterprise. One of the objectives of the Polarquest expedition was the identification of the airship ITALY and CRS4 made a significant contribution to this with the use of geographic information systems (GIS).
Three main research activities were carried out on board NANUQ: MANTANET (sampling of microplastics, by ISMAR and CNR), PolarquEEEst (measurement and recording of cosmic rays by the Centro Enrico Fermi and the Museo della Fisica), AURORA (observation and geographical documentation by the Italian Geographic Society and the European University of Rome).
The exhibition, narrating the scientific expedition Polarquest2018, has been introduced by Gianluca Casagrande (Professor of Geography at the Università Europea di Roma), Ombretta Pinazza (Researcher at INFN), Roberto Demontis (Researcher at CRS4), Giorgio Massaro (MedSea Foundation).
The exhibition 82°07'Nord is curated by Polarquest2018 and CRS4, the exhibition design and installation are by Emanuela Falqui (CRS4), the texts are curated by Polarquest2018.
The exhibition can be visited until November 30 every day (except Sundays) from 8 AM to 8 PM. For guided tours write to visitamostra@crs4.it
