Ernesto Bonomi, director of the CRS4 sector "HPC for Energy and Environment", on Thursday July 25th, 2019 will give a seminar entitled "For a Meaningful Artificial Intelligence" at the startup incubator The Net Value in Cagliari (Viale La Plaia, 15).
Artificial Intelligence is the new market Eldorado, omnipresent in economic and social debates. What does intelligence mean in a numerical sense? This topic should be an intensive research subject. It is a mysterious, delicate, chaotic subject, which has alternate progress and periods of stagnation. Algorithms work better and better, but scientists do not always have a complete control or understanding on the generalization ability. Mastering the algorithms and the mixture of mathematics and programming which characterizes artificial intelligence is an investment.
Artificial Intelligence will emerge in a few decades, provided that significant advances are made, not only technological but also qualitative and theoretical. For the moment, we only know how to produce highly specialized solutions (robots).
Ernesto Bonomi graduated as an Engineer in Physics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne, Switzerland, completed the Advanced Master's degree in Physics (Doctorat de 3-ème Cycle) at the University of Orléans, France, and was awarded a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics (Doctorat ès Science Physique) at the Ecole Polytechnique and University of Paris XI, France.
