CRS4 will co-coordinate with the University of Rostock (Germany) the European project "EVOCATION-Advanced Visual and Geometric Computing for 3D Capture, Display and Fabrication", funded by the Horizon 2020 call of the European training networks Marie Skłodowska-Curie 2018. Other partners of the consortium are CNR-ISTI, Fraunhofer, University of Zurich, Technical University of Vienna and the companies Gexcel and Holografika. Third parties also include, among others, the Archaeological Museum of Cagliari, the University of Cagliari, the University of Pisa and the NVIDIA company.
The project, started on October 1st 2018 for a duration of 48 months, will create a leading European PhD college for research in advanced visual and geometric computing technologies. The EVOCATION network of public and private entities will naturally be multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional and will train the next generation of creative, experienced entrepreneurs and innovators who will be equipped with the skills and competences needed to address current and future challenges in the field of acquisition of scalable and high-fidelity geometries, extraction of structures and semantics, 3D processing, visualization and manufacturing for professional and consumer applications.
The role of the CRS4 Visual Computing group in the project will be to coordinate network activities for research and teaching, as well as to perform research in the field of acquisition, distribution, and visualization of massive and complex objects and scenes.
The EVOCATION naturally blends with the activities of a research group which has been major partner in 14 EU and 4 US projects in the period 1996-2018.
