Abstract

The overall goal of the PASSION project is to contribute to the competitiveness of the European industry by enhancing the mobility and the access of maintenance operators to an ubiquitous and transparent information system, helping in the management of operations like detecting and fixing any disruption which may occur in a widely geographically distributed system. Examples of such systems include large transportation networks like energy, telecommunication, railway or highway; sets of equipment located in various distant places like ships, cars, buses fleets or even photocopiers. Any failure occurring in such critical systems always leads to important losses for the society which relies on them. By stopping or slowing the service provided by those systems, the failure and thus the time needed to fix it, has a direct impact on the activities of the people which use it. By providing a useful, proven system designed to deal with those important problem areas, PASSION will enable the European industry to gain real advantages from IT for Mobility technology in advance of their foreign competitors.
