GIS Area

Activities of the Area

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are essential for organizing and manipulating any form of spatially distributed data. The data can originate from maps, aerial photos, satellites, ground surveys, and traditional databases. Geographic information systems are being used at CRS4 in a host of regional (Sardinian) initiatives related to urban, industrial, and natural resources management and planning, and as a support tool for managing, processing, and analyzing the large volumes of environmental data connected also to our hydrologic modeling projects. The activities of the area are basically the planning, the improvements and the use of the Geographic Information System by:

Developing  applications to study spatial relationships between data deriving from heterogeneous sources-;

Experimentation of coupling GIS technologies with environmental models ;

Application of models using directly GIS technologies to estimate area being of environmental risk.

Creating  management facilities and planning tool to be used by the administrative centers as DSS (Decision Support System).

Implementation of GIS technologies and tools on the web for  using, updating and spreading geographical data.
